While
it is said, India lives in her seven lakh villages, the urban-rural
divide has actually reached grotesque proportions. Founder of
Deen Dayal Research Institute, social worker, 86-year-old Nanaji
Deshmukh, says the disparity is a sign of a lack of humanism.
He is pioneering a self-reliance campaign to regenerate rural
areas into thriving centers of economic activity in Chitrakoot,
Madhya Pradesh. A project, covering 500 villages in a radius of
50 kilometres that is now poised for ISO certification.
