SPOTFILMS was established as an electronic media agency in 1970, with Pramod Mathur as its proprietor. The company has the basic production hardware available in-house. It has technical, editorial and production expertise on staff; as well as a longstanding panel of independent technical and production experts who are hired on contract for different projects.

A major contribution of SPOTFILMS has been in the international market. This includes independent and collaborative assignments as well as technical support. ZDF (German Television), the Television Division of National Geographic Society, Columbia Pictures Television Division, United Nations Television Division, United Nations Environmental Programme, STEPS International, Article Z Electronic News Agency, Asian Journalists Association are some of the international organizations with whom it has been associated.

Foundation For Responsible Media is the not-for- profit arm of SPOTFILMS.

SPOTFILMS is also engaged in various media-related activities and training through its not-for profit arm, the Foundation For Responsible Media (Formedia). These include training workshops for journalists, intensive training programmes for ethical reporting, seminars and policy intervention initiatives at the national and international level.
